This course offers an in-depth exploration of violence against women, including its legal, social, and psychological dimensions. Students will study the root causes of gender-based violence, legal protections for victims, and the international and domestic frameworks aimed at addressing and preventing such violence. The course will focus on analyzing various forms of violence, such as domestic violence, sexual harassment, human trafficking, and psychological abuse, as well as the challenges victims face in accessing justice and support services.
Upon successful completion of the "Violence Against Women" course, students will be able to:
Identify and Explain Various Forms of Violence Against Women:
Students will be able to clearly define and distinguish between different types of violence, including domestic violence, sexual harassment, human trafficking, and psychological abuse. They will understand how each form of violence manifests in different social and cultural contexts.
Analyze International and National Legal Frameworks:
Students will critically analyze key legal instruments such as the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW) and Indonesia’s Law No. 23 of 2004 on Domestic Violence, understanding their role in protecting women’s rights and addressing violence.
Evaluate the Psychological, Social, and Legal Impacts of Violence:
Students will be able to assess the short-term and long-term effects of violence on women, including physical, emotional, and psychological impacts, as well as social consequences such as stigmatization. They will also evaluate how the legal system responds to these issues.
Understand Barriers Faced by Victims in Seeking Help:
Students will gain a deep understanding of the various barriers women face when seeking help, including emotional, financial, cultural, and legal challenges. This will include the role of social stigma, fear of the perpetrator, and distrust in legal systems.
Propose Effective Strategies for Preventing Violence and Supporting Victims:
Based on their studies, students will be able to propose actionable strategies for preventing violence against women, including public awareness campaigns, gender education, and legal reforms. They will also suggest ways to improve support services, such as shelters, counseling, and economic empowerment programs for survivors.
Critically Assess Case Studies and Real-World Applications:
Students will apply their knowledge to real-world case studies, critically analyzing instances of violence against women in various contexts. This will include evaluating how the legal and support systems responded and identifying areas for improvement in legal and social interventions.
