Course Requirements

To successfully complete this courses. Students are expected to meet the following requirements:

1.      1. Asychronous attendace : student must attend the class by watching all the videos uploaded for at least 60 seconds. As it is assynchronous, you can accsess the videos of your own convenient.

2.    2. Active student: students must actively enggage in class discussion, particulary in sensitives topics retaled to health rights for women’s for abortion.

     3. Quiz: Complete a quiz based on the presented materials to test understanding of key concepts discussed in the lesson. Students must do the quiz consisting 30 questions related to the topics in 20 minutes. To pass this courses, the minimum score the quiz must be 75 out of 100

Course Description

This lesson delves into safe abortion as a vital component of women's health rights, focusing on the legal, social, cultural, and religious dimensions in Indonesia. It examines how access to safe abortion services, in conjunction with holistic reproductive and mental health care, directly impacts women’s health and well-being. The course offers an analysis of the legal framework, social attitudes, and religious beliefs surrounding abortion in Indonesia. Students will critically assess the role of the government and women's advocacy in promoting safe abortion services and protecting women’s health rights.

Course Outcomes

By the end of this course, students will be able to:

1.     1. Understand Abortion in a Legal, Health, and Ethical Context: Students will gain a nuanced understanding of abortion as a health service and a women's rights issue, including medical and ethical aspects.

2.     2. Recognize the Need for Holistic Care: Students will understand the importance of addressing not only the physical but also the mental health aspects of abortion, emphasizing a holistic approach to women’s healthcare.

3.    3. Examine Religious Views on Abortion: Explore various religious perspectives on abortion and how these beliefs influence public policy, societal attitudes, and individual practices surrounding abortion in Indonesia.

4.     4. Analyze Social and Cultural Factors: Students will identify and analyze the key social and cultural factors that affect access to abortion services, including stigma, gender inequality, and socioeconomic conditions.

       5. Understand the Legal Framework Governing Abortion: Gain insight into Indonesia’s legal stance on abortion, including exceptions for medical necessity and rape, and how this framework aligns or diverges from international human rights standards.

      6. Highlight Positive Legal Perspectives: Learn about progressive legal perspectives that promote women's health rights and explore legal reforms that enhance access to safe abortion services.

      7.  Evaluate the Government’s Responsibilities: Assess the role of the Indonesian government in ensuring safe abortion services under its national and international obligations. This includes examining efforts to reduce maternal mortality and ensuring reproductive healthcare is available to all women.

       8. Recognize the Importance of Women’s Advocacy: Understand the crucial role of women’s advocacy and civil society organizations in promoting reproductive rights, particularly in ensuring safe and accessible abortion services. Learn how advocacy efforts can drive policy change and protect women's health rights.
