Founded: Origin dates back to 1941 (apprentice training class of the Central Electrical Equipment Factory). The current institution was formed in 2006 through the merger of Hunan Mechanical and Electrical Workers’ University and Xiangtan Mechanical and Electrical Technology College.

The institute occupies a campus area of 728 mu (approximately 48.5 hectares).

Academic scale: Over 10,000 full-time students and more than 600 faculty and staff.

It is recognised as a high-level vocational institution, including designation as a national key higher vocational college in the machinery industry, a Hunan provincial exemplary (key) vocational college, and a construction unit under the Hunan “Double High Plan” as well as a pilot college of the Chuyi Craftsman Program.
