Course Description

This course examines gender-based violence (GBV) in its various forms, focusing on causes, impacts, and strategies for prevention. Through global perspectives and case studies from Malaysia, students will explore legal reforms, economic empowerment, community mobilization, and healthcare support. The course aims to equip students with the knowledge and advocacy skills needed to promote gender equality and support survivors. By understanding the complexities of GBV, students will learn to develop and apply initiatives to combat violence, foster empowerment, and create a safer, more equitable society.

Course Outcomes

By the end of this course, students will be able to:

  1. Identify the different forms of gender-based violence (GBV) and analyze its root causes, along with its social, economic, and health-related impacts.
  2. Evaluate the effectiveness of various strategies, such as legal reforms, economic empowerment, and community mobilization, in addressing and preventing GBV, using case studies from Malaysia.
  3. Develop advocacy skills and propose community-based programs or initiatives to raise awareness, promote gender equality, and support survivors of GBV.
