Course Requirements

  1. Target Participants

    • Women aged 18 and above, particularly those who have dropped out of school.
    • Participants with little to no literacy skills in reading, writing, and numeracy.
  2. Prerequisites

    • No formal educational prerequisites required.
    • Willingness to engage in practical and contextual learning activities.
  3. Course Materials

    • Basic reading materials (letters, numbers, simple sentences, and paragraphs).
    • Writing tools: paper, pencils, and other relevant stationery.
    • Contextual aids: common household items, product labels, local signage, and other everyday symbols.
    • Digital literacy tools (for more advanced sessions): smartphone or tablet with internet access for understanding media information.
  4. Learning Environment

    • A safe, inclusive, and supportive environment conducive to adult learning.
    • Access to everyday environments (such as markets, community centers) to practice contextual learning.
    • Group discussions and peer learning opportunities to build community and mutual support.
  5. Instructor Expertise

    • Instructors with experience in functional literacy education and contextual learning approaches.

Course Description

This course is designed to empower women who have dropped out of school by equipping them with essential functional literacy skills. Using a contextual approach, the course integrates everyday experiences to make learning more meaningful and relevant to the participants' lives.

Participants will learn to read, write, and understand basic words, sentences, and paragraphs related to their daily activities. They will also gain familiarity with numbers, symbols, and common signs in their environment, which will help them navigate their daily lives more confidently. Additionally, the course will introduce strategies to critically filter and analyze information from various media sources.

This program aims to enhance participants' self-sufficiency and support their lifelong learning journey, enabling them to contribute to their communities and families more effectively. Through practical exercises and real-world applications, participants will build the literacy skills needed to engage in tasks such as shopping, household management, and understanding important information, while fostering personal growth and empowerment.
