Landscape Art is a specialized course designed for overseas students who love art, are passionate about gardens and landscapes, and are interested in Chinese classical garden culture. The course takes historical development as its main framework and uses resources and media such as biographies, paintings, ancient texts, archaeological materials, case studies, and videos to present representative garden examples from different periods and explore the cultural ideas embodied in Chinese classical gardens throughout history. The course aims to enable students to appreciate the unique charm of Chinese classical gardens, understand the artistic spirit embodied in traditional Chinese garden design, and experience the innovative spirit of contemporary New Chinese-style gardens.
The tropical garden art of Indonesia, known as the “Country of a Thousand Islands,” is remarkable and distinctive among the island nations of Southeast Asia. Similarly, Chinese classical gardens occupy an important position in the history of world landscape art. Chinese garden art embodies the cultural heritage and characteristics of the Chinese people and serves as a tangible expression of Chinese culture. With history as its framework and gardens as a means of conveying cultural ideas, this course hopes to help students discover the charm of Chinese gardens and open a door to a deeper understanding of Chinese culture and art.
